Dirranbandi Open victim of heavy rain

29 Aug, 2002 10:05 AM
Veterans Wednesday golf

Eleven veteran golfers hit off in the afternoon. The winner with a neat 31 points for the 12 holes was Pat Smith. Well done Pat.

The ball winners were Ron Canlin on 27 points, John Kimber on 27 points and Reg Huntley with 22 points.

Friday chook run

Twenty-seven players arrived for the weekly top-up-the-freezer chook run.

The course was still pretty damp in places from last week's rain. Believe it or not we had an inch of rain on the course.

Carl was saying it looked like a lake at night.

Wolf Moosmueller and Carmel Fiddling, on her first game of the day, set the target with neat 21 point games.

Brett Hyland and Nigel Webb equalled those scores later in the afternoon, but were passed by Mick Smith having one of his rare games and scoring 22 points.

The winner on the day was Felix Monch with a fine 23 points, well done Felix.

The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement award went to Murray Turner.

Saturday 12 hole stroke.

Another good turnout for the afternoon stroke event.

With a fine round of golf Wally "O" finished with a pretty neat 47.67 nett to take out the win for the day.

The runner-up with 48 nett was Don Welsh.

There were no nearest to pins or long drives.

Sunday 18 hole par

There were 11 players competing for the par event in the morning.

The winner with a score of plus five was Malcolm Carpenter for the second week.

Malcolm beat Knud Nexo into second place by plus two, well done.

There were four ball winners with Bruce completing a card for the handicap.

Dirranbandi Open Tournament

An overcast sky greeted the 36 men and 22 ladies arriving for the Dirranbandi Open

It was a prelude to the day with heavy showers starting during the first nine.

This eventually caused the cancellation of the event with the committee then having to work on the results.

The only Lightning Ridge players to bring home a trophy were Stacey Reynolds, who grabbed with both hands, the 9am gross trophy and Col Cooper who won the other trophy. Col had worked really hard in the rain to secure the Bradman's prize.

The prize was appropriate as it was a waterproof torch. Well done all.

As usual the Dirranbandi committee filled the players up with great food and the odd drink or two, which was appreciated by all, thanks to everyone concerned.

This week

A chook run will take place all day tomorrow with the final hit off at 3:30pm.
