Golf with the Swinger
Veterans' Wednesday golf
There were only seven players for the veterans' 12 hole event on Wednesday last week.
Scores were nothing to write home about with the winning score going to Ron Canlin on 23 points. Ron held off Knud Nexo to win by two points with Wolf Moosmueller and Val Boardman both on 20 points next.
Friday chook run
We saw a great crowd of 30 players for our weekly chook chase last week.
The course is playing a lot harder than I have seen for a long time with the winning score last week would have been lucky to make the top six say three weeks ago.
Well done to Heidi Smith again taking out the two-chook winners prize, Heidi won by one point with 24 points from the other improver in the new group Wendy Barrett.
The two girls have been having a great tussle lately as they both improved quicker than the handicapper can write the changes.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award really went to a deserving player last week.
Kath Johnston has just started back after the knee operation so will probably need the chicken chips to nibble on as she is driven around the golf course.
Saturday 12 hole stableford
Only six players arrived for the competition last Saturday afternoon.
The winner with a score of 24 points was Wolf Moosmueller. Wolf beat Ron Canlin back to runner-up spot with Ron having 22 points. Kath Johnston had a resurgence of form to finish with 21 points to pick up a ball in the ball competition.
Saturday golf trivia night
Saturday afternoon saw the girls all assemble for the sandwich making duties in the club to be ready for the hordes that night.
There were about 74 players who arrived around 7pm for the 7:30pm start.
It was a great night organised by Kim Wormald and compered by that outgoing local identity Steve Terrey who was at his best. Col and Stacey were kept busy behind the bar with Reg and Adam handling the outdoors games.
The club would like to thank Kim and all her helpers for the monster night; Steve for his wonderful contribution; all the lady club members who provided the sandwiches; Kath Johnston who was our doorperson with Reg and Adam games managers and Val and Trevor in charge of collections and raffles; Col and Stacey for the hard work behind the bar and much cleaning and return of gear on Sunday morning, especially all those wonderful people that took the time out to attend the night.
Sunday second monthly medal
There were 15 players for the 8:30am hit off on Sunday morning for the second monthly medal eclectic of the year.
The day was another success for Ron Hogan but this time he had to survive a count back with Dave Schafer as they both finished on nett 65.
Dave had a bit of a disaster on the back nine, which lost him the count back, hard luck mate. This left Ron the winner and allowed him to pick up his second medal for the year, well done Ron.
Ball winners were Felisa Monch with 69 nett, Joe Popovic with a 71 nett and Val Boardman with a 72 nett.
Vidar Hanvold played his last game for this trip as he returns home next week and injured his back in the last few holes. He was my golfing partner who gave it away after having a total disaster on the second hole across the dam. It took 19 strokes to get the ball in the hole.
