Clean sweep by juniors

25 Jun, 2004 08:15 PM
St George, Dirranbandi and Mungindi rugby league football teams travelled to the Ridge last weekend to entertain the crowds with some great footy.

Our Ridge Under-8s were too strong on the day claiming wins against Mungindi and Dirranbandi.

The Under-10s faced a strong Mungindi side and in a most entertaining game, came away with a well deserved draw.

Our Under-12s played a great style of rugby league to take the points against Dirranbandi and St George.

Hard and fast footy was on display as the Under-14s matched up against an undefeated St George outfit. A few late tries compliments of good teamwork saw the Tigers secure an inspiring victory.

Big thanks to the canteen committee, parent helpers and Bart the Barbecue King, who put together a great day.

Best wishes to our Balonne/Barwon Under-10s and 12s representatives who will be playing in Queensland in the coming fortnight.

Lightning Ridge players Tyron Drew, George McCormick, Terry Brown, Brody Simon and Lindsay Frizzell have earned selection in the Balonne /Barwon Under-10 years, 35kg, representative team to compete in a weight for age junior rugby league carnival. They will travel to St George for a full week of football from June 27 to July 2, competing against other rep sides from Queensland.

Under-12 Ridge players selected to represent in the 43kg competition are Zac Taylor, Cooper Scholes, Thomas Alchin, Bobby Brown and Daniel Cubby. The Under-12s will compete at Chinchilla the week after. Congratulations to these local football players, as this is the highest level of rugby league attainable in both age groups.
