Veterans' Wednesday
Only 10 of the veteran breed of golfers arrived for the 12 hole par event last week.
Sorry if I missed anyone, but the 2002 Veterans Championships had to be delayed and will now be conducted in the new year.
Keep your eyes on the board at the club for details.
Last week the winner with a neat plus three was slick Wolf Moosmueller.
Wolf was a two-point winner from Reg Huntley on plus one and with Bryan Earl picking up a ball by losing in the count back.
Ladies golf
Eight of our girls arrived for a little 12 hole jog on the course on Wednesday last week.
Kath Johnston gave the ball a big serve and seared out to win on 30 points, just one point clear of Jan Davis who was also trying hard.
The ball winners were Elyn Nexo on 27 points and Cheryl Hudson on 26 points.
I believe the girls were stargazing after an interruption of koala watching towards the end of the game.
Friday chook run
After a heavy storm on Thursday night where the liquid gold completely soaked the course we were unable to play on Friday morning.
The captain inspected the course and decided there would be a hit off from 3pm to 4:30pm for those badly needing a fix.
There were only 11 players needing a fix on Friday afternoon, I had imagined golfers coming from everywhere to play after missing out in the morning.
The winner with a great score of 25 points was Felix Monch.
Felix just held up Robina Boardman who tried hard to get there but fell one shot short with 24 points.
The last chook was won in a count back by Ron Canlin disposing of Val Boardman in the last couple of holes.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award went to Trevor Hudson on 11 points.
Saturday 12 hole social
Only nine players came out for the 12 hole social stableford on Saturday.
All players hit off in the morning early and there was no one for the afternoon hit off.
Looks like Saturday will be a morning only hit off.
The winner in a two-way count back was Brett Hyland who defeated Don Welsh after they both finished on 24 points.
The balls were accepted by three of the girls with Carmel Fiddling on 21 points and Stacey Reynolds and Cheryl Hudson on 20 points.
Maybe everyone was saving themselves for the big Sunday with the Dowdle Day, Presentation Day and Christmas party all thrown in.
I believe there was a fair concentration of social players who went around for a 12 hole bash.
Sunday Dowdle Day
There was a great turnout of 36 players for the three-person ambrose on Sunday with another 11 players playing in the 12 hole social competition.
Playing in sixes was a great social occasion as there was plenty of sledging and encouragement for any bad shots played and for the good shots played by the opposition.
The winning team for the day was the class-packed Hogan team consisting of Kay Hogan, Elyn Nexo and Ron Hogan esquire.
The team finished with a score of 67 gross for a nett score of 57.83.
Well done team Hogan, the runners-up were just one and a half shots behind with a score of 69 gross for a nett of 59.17.
They were Sally Williams, Carl Huskinson and Ian Hegarty.
Third place went to the dream team of Kath Johnston, Pat Smith and Ron Canlin who had a score of 66 gross for a nett score of 59.67 - only point five behind the second placed team.
The team of Ken Lindquist, Wayne Brown and Peter Healey with a score of 45 nett 30 won the social competition, well done fellas.
The runner-up was a great two-person team of Mark Cayton and Allan Cameron with a 59 nett 43.
Third place went to our Toowoomba visitors Kylie, Nick and Jordan Dowdle with a fine 67 nett 48.5.
The Classic Encouragement Award went to Debb, Marty Heff and Dave McGuinnes.
It was a fantastic day with everyone having a ball and really making the day complete by staying for the lunch, a few drinks, the presentation day and the party after.
It turned out a great presentation.
The president, captain Ron and last year's captain Dudley thanked all those that had worked in the club during the year and all those that had assisted with all the little things that need to be done for the club to be as viable as it is.
