Charlie Strike maintained his shooting ability on Saturday afternoon, securing the 25-target 'Dirt Diggers' Double Barrel Championship title against 14 other competitors.
Four other shooters who were neck-to-neck leading to a final shoot-off afterwards, hotly contested the main event.
The contenders were Rex Lehman, Nathan Power, Peter Hall and Doug Lehman.
Lightning Ridge Gun Club spokesman Peter Hall said three of the five contenders had managed to get the same score hitting 24 out of the 25 targets. They were Doug Lehman, Peter Hall and Charlie Strike.
Hall said the good thing about the double barrel event was that shooters got two shots at their targets.
However, he said it was also a much harder event, because it was shot continental style.
"The targets come out of the trap at random angles and heights, which can be unpredictable."
The A grade winner was Nathan Power, with Rex Lehman securing the runner-up position.
In B grade Larry White took out the event, followed by Kevin Searle in second place, and Peter Hall qualified as the C grade winner, with Doug Lehman in the runner-up spot.
A 10 target Double Barrel Handicap Eye Opener Cash Divide opened the day of shooting in Lightning Ridge, with $10 each going to Stephen Raines, Greg Webber, Nathan Power and Peter Hall who all managed to shoot 10 out of 10 possibles.
Hall said there had been some good shooting skills shown in the cash divide event.
"It was very competitive, because usually you only get about two shooters who are able to get 10 possibles, so it is quite uncommon to get four like we did."
The second event, which was a 25-target point score handicap saw Stephen Raines win again, followed by Doug Lehman and in third place Kevin Searle.
Hall said the point score shoot was out of a maximum of 75 points.
Stephen made 71, with Doug one point out on 70, and likewise with Kevin on 69.
"They were all very close scores, because while it is possible to shoot all targets and get the 75 points, it is fairly rare, but has been done before in our club by Charlie and Doug."
"The scores today (Saturday) are what we average, some shooters are more constant in their performance, while others shoot better on different days," he said.
The next shoot will be the Club Championships to be competed on September 29.
"We hope to get at least about 15 to 20 shooters to take part, so we can determine who the champions in each grade for this year will be," Hall said.
