The first game of the year in cricket for the Walgett and District competition was played during the weekend.
The home game between Lightning Ridge and Walgett on Saturday didn't last too long though, proving the Bombers were no match for the Ridge.
Walgett were all out for only 72 runs in 14 overs, while the Ridge made 5 for 237 runs in the 40 over match.
Lightning Ridge club spokesperson Mario Strasek said despite very humid conditions on the day, it was a very good result for the Ridge team.
The Ridge batted first after they won the toss and produced two star batters, Michael Matson who scored 98 runs, and Darren Chapman, proving nearly as good making 80 runs.
Mr Strasek said their best bowlers on the day were Wayne Kennedy with 4 for 35 in 7 overs, and Sam Jeffries with 5 for 32 in 6.5 overs.
The game which started at 10am finished by 3pm, and Mr Strasek said it is a good feeling winning a game so early in the piece, and knowing that you can probably do it again.
After nine rounds Lightning Ridge are still equalling the top of the ranks, currently third, behind the Aces who are second, and the Breakaways who are leading, all on 51 points.
On Saturday, the Lightning Ridge team will travel to Walgett to challenge the chart topper, the Breakaways.
