Five players for a stableford event.
Winner - Bryan Earl, Runner Up - Ron Canlin, Other Players - Pat Smith, Val Boardman, Wolf Moosmueller.
Friday Chook Run December 14
Situation normal as we had advertised the ham and frozen chooks for the first and second place in the chook run. Down comes the rain to spoil the day. This gave Joe Popovic the win for the ham and in a count back Stacey Reynolds beat Kath Johnston for the two frozen chooks.
Winner - Joe Popovic, runner-up - Stacey Reynolds.
Saturday was a wash out, no golf.
Sunday Stroke 18 holes
On Sunday 18 players arrived for an 18 hole stroke game with a ham for the winner and two frozen chooks for the runner-up.
Winner and ham for the day was Ian Hegarty with an 81 nett 66 just two shots ahead of the runner-up Mal Carpenter with an 80 nett 68.
Wednesday December 19 Veterans
The win went to Pat Smith with a fine 21 points for the nine holes with the runner-up Val Boardman on 17 points. Other players were Sepp, Wolf, Brett and Barry.
Friday December 21 chook run
There were 34 players for the weekly chook chase although this week it was a ham for first and two frozen chooks for second, there were count backs for most places with Brett Hyland and Kath Johnston on 23 points for first and second with Brett getting the nod. There was also a four way count back on 19 points for the last three chooks with Cheryl Hudson beating herself for the last chook on 19.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award went to Trevor Hudson on a disastrous six points. Trev’s still on the comeback trail after major shoulder surgery. Well done mate.
A special big welcome to Donna and Paul Hegarty, Ian’s brother and sister-in-law over in the great country from that wonderful little spot called Portland, Oregon, USA. Hope you enjoy your stay in Aussie and have a safe trip home.
Saturday December 22
There were only five players for the Saturday late afternoon comp, so it was decided to have a 9 hole skinners with a Stableford handicap game thrown in.
Winner - Ian Hegarty, Runner Up - Vida Hanvold, Other players - Paul and Donna Hegarty and Val Boardman. The result of the skinners was consumed over the bar.
Sunday December 23
Thirteen players arrived for the 18 hole game of Stableford Golf.
The winner and the runner-up were the only players to break the 40 mark today even with the course in great condition. Col Cooper was the winner and took home the half ham with a great score of 42 points. Elaine Dowdle finished with two frozen chooks with her neat score of 40 points.
Friday chook run
It was left to 18 hardened players to front for the nine hold chook run on Friday.
With the back nine being the harder of the two nines the scores were down on the normal with the winner being Col Cooper on 19 points just two points up on Mick Derouet who lasted to get runner-up. The Black Opal Advocate encouragement award went to Jan Jakitsch.
Sunday Stableford (Medley)
With a hit off at 8am there were 14 players arrived for the Stableford game on Sunday morning.
A great round of golf again saw Col Cooper win the event with a very good 40 points to hold out the runner up Wolf Moosmueller by two points. Beau McKenzie finished his fifth card and now has an official handicap of 36 as a junior.
Balls were won by players down to 33 points with Joe Popovic taking out the nearest the pin on the 3rd hole.
Friday chook run January 4
Not a big day as chook runs go but great to see 18 players attempting to secure the chicken dinner for the weekend.
The early players set the pace for the day with Stacey and Wolf on 18 points just behind Vida Hanvold on 19 points and the consistent Col Cooper leading on 20 points. Joe Popovic wasn’t impressed with his 12 points first time round so decided another was required. This round proved the winner for the day as he finished with 20 points and beat Col on a countback.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award of the chicken chips went to Marilyn Milas.
Sunday Stableford
The 7am start on Sunday morning saw 14 players hit off trying to beat the heat.
The winner on a count back on 37 points was Wally “O” with his defeat of Ron Canlin again on 37 points.Ball winners were Col Cooper, Pat Smith and Terry Wohni on 35 points with the last ball going to Mal Carpenter on 34 points.
Friday chook run January 11
There were only 15 players for the weekly chook chase this week as again with the hot weather and people away we struggle for players.
Col Cooper was again the early leader with his 20 points but was equalled by Wolf Moosmueller and then passed by Terry Wohni with 21 points as the morning went on Terry was matched by Wally “O” in the final group of the morning. There was a big gap of no players until the last six went out about 3.30pm.
Terry Wohni held on for the win on the day in a count back with Wally “O”. The Black Opal Advocate encouragement award went to a visitor Jim Fahey.
Sunday January 13 Par
Fourteen players arrived for the par game on Sunday morning. It was a beautiful morning cool and just a little breeze to keep it nice.
Winner on the day was Wolf Moosmueller with plus 4 just two ahead of runner-up Ian Hegarty on plus 2. Balls were won down to minus 3 where Dave Schafer beat Col Cooper in a count back for the last ball.

Tomorrow: chook run all day 7.30am to 4.30pm last hitoff. Sunday 18 holes hitoff at 7am sharp.
