Bowlers contest triples

14 Jul, 2004 09:16 PM
It was cloudy conditions for bowlers as they competed in the Annual Winter Triples tournament on the weekend at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club.

Bowlers from around the State travelled in threes to the Black Opal Capital to contest against a challenging field.

There were 26 teams entered in the competition making 78 players in total, with teams from Cessnock, Katoomba, Foster, Dubbo and the local Lightning Ridge players.

After two days of intense competition local boys Tony Lamb, Rex Cochrane and Graham Morris were the overall winners and took home prize money of $1800.

Skippers Phil Morris, Russell Chapman and David Webb decided not to battle it out for second, third and fourth but split the prize money of $900 for second, $600 for third and $300 for forth equally.

President of the Bowling Club Peter Williams said the weekend went off without a hitch.

"It was a wonderful weekend and we received a lot of good comments about it," he said.
