Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of being invited to Burren Junction for the Marg Wheeler Charity Day.

This event was postponed from May.

It was a beautiful day weather-wise and 36 bowlers turned up to play.

Overall a total of $680 was raised and this was donated to the Wee Waa Hospital.

Winners were Victor Murray, Jim Lyall and Jack McLean from Walgett, the runners-up being Jennele Williams, Bev Sullivan and Dean Murphy from Burren Junction.

In the George Smith and Joe Flynn Day held at Collarenebri on August 31, the Collarenebri team of Mick Budderdean, Norm Hall and Phill Owens was successful, and the runners-up were Victor Murray, Jim Lyall and Jack McLean from Walgett.

The Lightning Ridge club has just completed its mixed pairs and mixed fours.

In the fours the team of Rex Cochrane, Peter Williams, Judy Williams and Edie Preston defeated Nathan Woodcock, Ern Everett, Wilma Jones and Bev Everett in the final, and they now advance to the district finals to be played at Walgett on Sunday, September 22.

In the pairs final Rex Cochrane and Edie Preston defeated Merv King and Liz Collins to advance to the district finals to be played at Collarenebri on Sunday September 29.

This week, we have the Black Opal Prelude starting with the pairs today and tomorrow, and the fours on Saturday and Sunday.

Also this weekend we have the Zone Club Champion of Champion Pairs event being played at Wee Waa.

Phillip A Morris and Phillip W Morris will represent the Barwon District, we wish them success in the event.
