With six teams from Lightning Ridge, five from Walgett, two from Collie and one team from Goodooga the stage was set for the first big tournament of the season, the Barwon District Fours.
By the time the semi-finals had been reached there were two Lightning Ridge teams still alive, PAMorris and Ray Brown.
Phil had a good win against Bill Kennedy from Walgett to advance to the finals, but Ray had a tough game against Rex Skuthorpe and went down.
The finals started off fairly closely but the powerful team skipped by Rex Skuthorpe proved too strong on the day and ended up with a convincing win 26 to 12.
All players are reminded that the Pennants number ones will be playing at Katingal and the sevens at Walgett
The mens draw is on the board for the club major singles and the pairs also.
The Ladies Pennant season starts on the 9th and we wish both the men and the women the best of luck representing Lightning Ridge.
A minute’s silence was held for long-time member of the ladies club Fay Gale.
Our thoughts go out to Phil at this time.
Also on behalf of the Club we wish Bill Millington a quick return to health.
Until next week good bowling everybody.
