Father’s Day perfect day out for bowlers

10 Sep, 2009 12:13 PM
In great weather the Father’s Day tournament was played last Sunday with more than 50 bowlers participating in a very friendly atmosphere.

The Father’s Day tournament is one of the highlights of the social bowls calendar and a man’s bowls bag run by the ladies as a very well supported raffle was won by the popular Maury Bowles. Such an appropriate name as well Maury.

The winners and losers to collect prizes were Carol Doherty, Davo, Rod Hungerford, Ann Barclay, Col Cooper, Chris Walker, Tony Aquino, Carol Kimber, Jack Walker, Toby Egan, David Webb, John KImber and Anton Jakitch.

Many thanks to the kitchen staff for the sumptuous meal which was enjoyed by all.

The finals of the ladies club championship triples was held last Friday. Judy Greenfield, Lyn Carney and Ann Barclay, the district triples champions proved too strong in the end for Meg Morris, Wilma Jones and Liz Collins. It was not without its anxious moments for “Team Jude” with 17-all on the 17th end but a one and then a two on the next two ends gave them a bit of breathing space with the final score being 22-18.

Bob Newman and Frank Mogor went to Maitland representing Lightning Ridge at the reserve pairs at State level. They won their first game easily and although they gave it their best shot they were eliminated in the second game. Congratulations and well done guys.

Dont forget the prelude is on for four days starting Thursday with the pairs with Saturday and Sunday the fours. Be there to see the action.

Until next week good bowling everybody.
