In perfect weather the much-anticipated Bert Cooper Singles was held last weekend and, although numbers were down on last year, the standard of play was quite exceptional and made for exciting viewing.
By Sunday the field was down to eight players with another eight players in the repercharge.
PA Morris won from Alan Tighe.
Frank Vogel won from Graham Morris.
PW Morris won from Albie Gibbs.
David Webb won from Tony Lamb.
David went on to beat Big Phil and PA Morris beat Frank Vogel.
PA Morris went on to become the ultimate winner after a good game against David Webb.
The repercharge winner was Russell Chapman who played against young Brett Richards who did wonderfully well to reach the finals.
Congratulations to all winners and near winners.
A large thank you to Joan Gebetsberger for her tireless umpiring skills and also to Adam Webb for the immaculate state of the greens.
Sunday afternoon saw 27 players turn out for the annual Mothers’ Day Fun Day.
In very warm conditions a lot of fun was had by all.
At 6pm the men’s club put on a delicious dinner for the girls.
It was a great evening and many thanks must go to the kitchen staff.
Judy Greenfield and Lyn Carney played last year’s winners Joan Gebetsberger and Ann Barclay last Wednesday to see who would represent Lightning Ridge in the district pairs at Narrabri.
Judy and Lyn didn’t have it all their own way with great bowls being played by all four players but they emerged the winners.
Good luck for Tuesday week.
It is with regret that we advise all bowlers that Maury Bowles passed away on Sunday evening.
Maury was one of the colourful characters of Lightning Ridge and will be sadly missed by his many friends.
The bowling club expresses its sympathy to his family.
