Bowls tournament starts on 'coldest day in living memory'

08 Jul, 2010 02:05 PM
According to Peter Williams, Saturday, the first day of the winter triples was the coldest day in living memory for the start of a bowling tournament.

One has to wonder at the mentality of bowlers with most of us over 60 and more, rugged up to the nines complete with beanie, when sitting by the fire with a good book would have been a far better option.

However we all soldiered on and at the end of that appalling day there were five teams who had won all their games out of a field of 28.

Sunday was still cool but by the afternoon it was almost tropical and much more the sort of weather we here at the Ridge are used to.

The outright winner winning all six games was Graham Morris and his team of Shannon and Alan Tighe.

Four teams played off on the yardstick with PA Morris, Jay Morris and Doug Newton finishing second.

Third was Rex Skuthorpe and his team of Dave Sammuelson and Tim Anderson and fourth was Dick Jeffries, Ray Brown and Peter Williams.

Thanks must go to our greenkeeper Adam Webb, umpire Noel Burke and to all the teams who participated under rather trying conditions. Without you there would be no tournament.

Until next week good bowling everybody.
