Lightning Ridge Central School students Lauren Hughes and Arabella McKenzie attended the North West Schools Sports Association 42nd annual presentation in Tamworth on Tuesday.

The presentation was held during a luncheon at the West Diggers and included a talk from guest speaker, Alan Tongue, who grew up in Tamworth and played league with Canberra.

About 40 students from the North West Region were in attendance to accept awards for their sporting achievements.

Lauren was the very deserved winner of the Kris Stewart Memorial Trophy for all her swimming achievements throughout the year and was presented with the award by Mr and Mrs Stewart of Tamworth.

Arabella received a North West Blue for her outstanding achievements in girls’ cricket.

The presenter said Lauren and Arabella had represented their school, zone, region and state with honour and pride and their awards were a fitting way to recognise their wonderful sporting achievements.
