The Lightning Ridge Strikers travelled just down the road to challenge the Walgett Wolves on Saturday April 24.
After some quick stretches and a jog around the fields we were off to a flying start.
The six-year-olds’ team had a fantastic game and was very entertaining to watch.
Billy and Doug quickly got into the swing of things building on the skills they developed last year.
New players, Julie and Jock, had a great game with some big kicks and interesting passing skills. Thanks to the Walgett Wolves for playing with the Strikers.
The under 7’s and under 8’s were really outnumbered so combined games were played.
This enabled everyone to have a go and enjoy soccer.
It was a fantastic first game with the players slowly getting back into the swing of things.
Once again we had a combined team of 11’s, 12’s and 13’s and with some help from Walgett the game was underway.
The score for the game was Strikers 5 to Wolves 2.
The goal scorers were Cougar (Walgett) 1, Jack and Maverick 2 each.
A special mention goes to Alistair (Walgett) for an outstanding game, he just didn’t stop the entire time.
Portia and Adam gave 100 per cent effort even though the conditions were rather hot.
Registrations are still being taken.
If you have not paid your registration fees you will not be able to play at soccer carnivals.
The registration fee is $59 for children aged five to nine years old and $65 for children aged 10 to 18 years old.
The Coonabarabran Soccer Carnival is coming up on May 16.
Please let Marg Morriss know if you are interested so that we can nominate teams.
Next Thursday, training will be held as usual from 3.30pm-4.30pm at the soccer fields.
On Saturday we play Walgett at Lightning Ridge.
If players and parents could arrive before 9am to help set up the nets, etc., that would be great.
We will also need some volunteers in the canteen for a short time.
After the games there will be a quick committee meeting.
See you all next Saturday.
Go the Strikers.
