Soccer season nearly finished

02 Sep, 2010 02:36 PM
The Strikers’ annual presentation will be held on Saturday after the game against Walgett. Trophies will be presented to the children and a barbecue will be run. Make sure you are there to collect your trophy.

Meanwhile, a great day of soccer was held last Saturday when the Strikers travelled to Walgett. Thanks, once again, to JobLINK Plus for their support in hiring the bus.

The Under 5/6’s had great fun providing some memorable moments for their parents.

As we were short on numbers the Ridge’s Under 6, 7 and 8’s players joined together to form a team. The game proved to be very entertaining as the kids had to try to avoid being swooped by a magpie while playing.

Jordon scored our first goal early in the game.

He then went on to score another two goals before the game was over. Dorian also scored two goals and Elijah scored one - well done boys.

Toby, Tarnee amd Claire did a good job defending the back of the field. They showed some good ball skills.

The Ridge came out on top with a score of six goals to one.

Thank you to the Walgett players (Max, Baden and Beatrix) who helped us out.

The senior team was down on numbers so some great players from Walgett joined the Strikers.

It was a hard-fought game with Walgett being too strong in the end, defeating the Strikers.

Ben was our only goal scorer with two goals.

“Fast hand” Jack was amazing in goals and stopped heaps of goal attempts from getting through. With a few players missing, the remaining team members found it difficult to play their new positions, which saw Walgett in an attacking position for most of the game.

Darlene and Zac worked well as mid fielders, with Zac growing in confidence each week - well done Zac.

As usual Nick and Ben worked well as forwards, while Jessica, Adam and Amanda put in strong performances as backs.

Next week we play Walgett at home so please be at the soccer grounds early to help set up.

Also any parents who can help in the canteen would be greatly appreciated.

This will be our last home game so make sure you are there to support your kids.

As has been previously mentioned we will hold our presentation of trophies along with a barbecue after the game so make sure you hang around for this important event.
