Juniors setting new record

19 Nov, 2009 08:11 AM
Game three of the junior cricket season saw us gain three more new players and a new record was set that’s going to be hard to beat.

A big welcome to Samuel Jackson-Bolton, Jack Thompson and Patrick Knight who all fronted up for their first game this week.

Ryan Brown and Toby Thompson were the Captains for the day.

Ryan’s team went on to win by 10 runs after Toby’s team fought well to almost come back and take the game.

The match started with Toby winning the toss and choosing to bowl.

Ryan’s team hit 131 runs in a big total that was always going to be a challenge for the opposition. Patrick and Jack did an excellent job in their first game making runs to help their team out.

Bella McKenzie was the main contributor though smashing our Junior Cricket record for an individual score.

Her week in Sydney at the State Cricket Trials seemed to have served her well as she made a terrific 62 runs, including eleven 4’s and two 6’s.

Michael was great in support, as always batting strongly, scoring 45 with seven 4’s and two 6’s.

Nick Hall did well taking a wicket and showing great speed in the field.

Toby’s team replied with 121 runs altogether, falling short of the total required.

Michael again batted in both line-ups, due to uneven numbers in the teams, and this time hit 24 runs.

Nick made an excellent 46 runs (six 4’s and two 6’s), improving on his previous personal best of 18.

Rory Cheal, Toby and Samuel were all a great support, also batting strongly for their team.

Bella and Patrick took wickets and bowled very well. Jack Thompson showed he is definitely a player of the future, already bowling with an excellent controlled action in his first effort.

The most improved player ward this week went to Bella and the best player award was given to Nick.

For any players interested in joining Junior Cricket the cost is nil and we train 5pm to 6pm on Wednesdays at the town cricket nets.

Players need to be boys or girls in year 4, 5, 6 or 7 and our games are played from 8am Saturday’s at the town cricket ground.
