Juniors display excellent skill

02 Apr, 2009 11:17 AM
In one of our closest junior cricket games for a while, Saturday’s match went right down to the last ball. Ben Williams and Michael McGregor were the captains, Ben’s team winning the day by two runs, 99 to 97.

Everyone was able to bat twice this week with both teams getting two innings each. Michael’s team had the early lead, scoring 50 runs to 38 in the first innings.

Ben won the toss, chose to bat and were lead well by Max Hall who top-scored. Darcy Barret batted well also retiring after batting out his allocated five overs. Brendan Lollback took two wickets for the fielding team.

Bella McKenzie and Michael helped their team to a first innings lead, making most of the runs as the opening batters.

Max Hall took two wickets and Archer Holz took one to help their team.

Max Hall hit an outstanding 38 runs in his second inning (57 runs for the second innings), including eight fours. Darcy Kidd and Michael took wickets, leaving their team an overall total over 99 runs to chase.

Michael’s team were unlucky to fall two points short. Michael (37 runs in all) and Bella (22 runs) put up a strong fight. Ben Ferguson and Darcy Kidd were also excellent contributors with the bat.

Archer again took a wicket (two for the day) and Ben McWilliams took one too.
