Cricketers tear up local pitch

03 Dec, 2009 03:54 PM
It was a competitive game of junior cricket on Saturday where we again saw some outstanding performances. We welcome two new players, Ellen Knight and Zach Webb who both showed some encouraging potential.

The two captains for the day were Alister Curry and Bella McKenzie with Bella’s team the eventual winners by 30 runs.

After losing the toss Alister’s team was sent in to bat. They made a respectable 78 runs with all batters playing well.

Patrick Knight, Jack Thompson, Archer Holz and Alister all put up solid resistance against the opposition’s bowling and were hard to get out.

Nick Hill was the top scorer though, hitting two 4s and a 6 on the way to an unbeaten 16.

Bella and Ellen were the pick of the bowlers in the first inning, both taking wickets.

Bella’s team replied scoring 108, Bella herself following up last game’s recording breaking score of 62 with an excellent 47 including five 6s and three 4s. She was well supported by great batting performances from Nick, Samuel Jackson-Bolton, Rory Cheal and Ellen.

Archer bowled well taking a wicket with Jack and Ellen showing excellent fielding skills taking a catch each during the game.

The match was a great success with all involved enjoying the day. Our training sessions are Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm.

Our games are played every Saturday morning form 8am.

A big thanks also goes to our umpire and scorer Russell Holz and Nathan Forbes.
