 Awesome game tops off season

Awesome game tops off season

17 Dec, 2009 12:57 PM
A close finish and some improved skills were on show for the last game of junior cricket for 2009.

Patrick Knight and Max Hall were our captains with Max’s team scoring the winning runs in the final over of the game.

Max won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Patrick’s team went on to make a respectable 79 runs in the 13 overs that they batted.

Bella McKenzie, as she has been doing this season, starred with the bat hitting 39 runs including five 4s and two 6s.

Nick Hill was excellent in support, hitting five 4s in his 20.

Patrick and Samuel Jackson-Bolton also played very well for the batting side.

Ellen Knight was the wicket-keeper for Max’s side.

Max’s team replied with 87 runs with Nick Hill returning to junior cricket for one game hitting 22 runs (five 4s) and scored the winning runs.

Max, Rory Cheal and Ellen Knight all showed some great batting talent but when the second last wicket fell the 19 runs required looked like being just out of reach.

Ellen and Nick steadied through and stayed in long enough to take the game.

Wickets were taken in the second innings by Patrick, Sam and Bella.

Our best player award this week went to Bella who scored runs, took a wicket and held on to a great catch.

The most improved player award went to Patrick who is showing more confidence with every week.

Thanks to our umpires Nathan Forbes and Rick Hall.

Saturday was my last game and I’ve enjoyed being a part of our Lightning Ridge Junior Cricket which has now been running for four years and looks to continue strongly in 2010.

Thanks to all the people who have helped support us over the years.

All keen cricketers in Years 4 to 7 next year should make sure they front up after the school break and join in the fun on Saturday mornings.
