Nail-biting win for All-Stars against Dragons

Nail-biting win for All-Stars against Dragons

20 May, 2010 12:28 PM
The first game this week saw the Dragons take on the All-Stars.

As this game got underway close to the official starting time both teams only had the minimum amount of players initially. All the players who turned up late got a bit of a shock when they realised the game had got under way without them.

It was the Dragons who drew first blood with Vicky Drackett scoring first followed closely by another two pointer.

The All-Stars seemed to be getting worried because neither team appeared to be in control of the game and the clock was ticking away; however, in All-Star style, they started to come back thanks to Lawrence Walford with some intercepts and some quick baskets.

Suddenly the All-Stars were back in the game as the hooter went for half-time.

The second half got under way and both teams were determined to take home two competition points as it was neck and neck throughout the entire half.

Jennifer Walford capitalised on some mistakes made by the All-Stars getting the upper hand at this stage and a confidence boost as the crowd started getting behind the Dragons, hoping that this would be their first win of the year.

The All-Stars, however, had other plans. They used the entire 20 minutes of the half to keep at it, scoring now and then, and not rushing things.

Two baskets from Lawrence Walford saw them take the lead 20-16.

A late basket by Jennifer was a sign of hope, but that’s where it stopped and time was the Dragon’s enemy as the siren sounded giving the win to the All-Stars 20 points to 18.

Highest scorers for the All-Stars were Lawrence Walford (10) and Peter Dowdy (6).

Highest scorers for the Dragons were Jennifer Walford (8) and Vicky Drackett (6).

The second game of this week saw the Vipers come up against Magic.

Before the start of this game the Magic players were starting to get quite nervous as they needed a win to stay in the top end of the competition. As the Vipers players started to turn up an obviously worried look crossed the faces of the Magic’s players.

Although the Vipers were missing three girls they still fielded a very strong team and were nothing but confident about taking home the two competition points.

Danny (Redbull) Seaton as always came out running, leaving players in his wake and scoring the first two points.

Indeed the Vipers were on fire right from the start running and scoring along with great defence. They were keen to leave a mark on the competition by showing the other teams that they are the favourites. But as the Vipers started to wonder whether all their star players could work together as a team, the Magic got the ball. With end-to-end passing and players finding open spaces, it became clear that in true Magic style, a comeback was on the cards.

It was point for point during the first half, until the Vipers had a few too many unsuccessful three-pointers, giving the ball to the Magic, who then continued to collect two pointers through Amber Adams, Amy Louie and Sam Louie.

Half-time came around and the Magic had the upper hand but the Vipers were determined to turn it around after the break.

A sneaky basket after the break from the Magic saw the Vipers more hungry for the win, but the more they tried to catch up by shooting three pointers and missing, the more frequently the Magic got away with two pointers. They were leaving the Vipers behind now.

Just like theprevious game, however, it was not the Magic who were the enemy, but the clock. When the Magic took their two time-outs, the clock seemed to favour the Magic more and more.

In the end the Magic pulled off the upset, beating the favourites easily by 49 points to 33. Highest scorers for the Magic were Sam Louie (16) and Amy Louie (12).

Highest scorers for the Vipers were Beau Seaton (14) and Danny Seaton (7).
