 Year of drama for station

Year of drama for station

24 Sep, 2003 07:30 PM
It is with pleasure I bring you, the members of Opal FM, the Presidents Report for the year 2002-2003.

Opal FM has had a fair year, we were able to pay accounts when due, and still have a steady bank balance at the end of the financial year.

The station was able to receive two ethnic grants during the year, which was used to purchased equipment and to keep the ethnic programs running.

After the devastating storm at the beginning of the year which damaged the satellite dish, and with power fluctuations, damage was done to some of the equipment but sponsors kindly loaned equipment to enable the station to stay on air.

The Community Broadcasting Foundation came to the rescue with a grant for replacement of all equipment. Without this Foundation, community radio would find it hard to keep running.

We were also given a donation grant from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal.

With sponsorship and donations we were able to purchase a small van for outside broadcasting.

This will be fully set up this financial year by applying for grants, which we hope to receive.

This van replaces the previous caravan, known as the yellow submarine, as it was too heavy to be towed. After much deliberation the decision was made to sell the old caravan.

We wish to thank everyone who supported our fundraising ventures, especially the barbecue we are doing every second Thursday, it is much appreciated as it is getting harder for sponsors to keep the station running, with the current drought and conditions.

We send a heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who have supported the station all year. I thank the presenters and volunteers for all their time and effort who keep the station and music running for the community and surrounding areas of Lightning Ridge.

I wish the incoming committee the best for the coming year.

I enjoyed being involved with the station and meeting the community.

President Dawn Nicholson
