Local primary school student Luke Sweatman was named as one of 20 finalists in the nation's largest creative writing competition for students, Nestle Write Around Australia.
Ten-year-old Luke was chosen from 350 entries from the north-west zone section of the competition.
He travelled to Gunnedah last Wednesday where he was given a certificate and a backpack filled with Nestle products.
Luke is no stranger to the competition having been chosen as the zone winner last year, winning a free flight to Sydney and $500 worth of books.
Students were asked to write a 500-word story which was judged by a panel of local teachers, librarians and authors.
Luke wrote a science fiction story called The Best Swap Ever, because he wants to be a scientist.
Luke's father Andrew Sweatman said he was very proud of his son's achievement.
"I thought he did well to get this far this year," he said.
Luke said his favourite part is coming up with the ideas for the stories.
The competition aims to encourage students to develop creative writing skills and utilise library resources.
