An Academic Preparation Workshop for enrolled nurses and indigenous health care workers was held in the Ridge yesterday and continues today.
The workshop was sponsored by Greater Western Area Health Service and conducted by Charles Sturt University (CSU).
Lecturer in Nursing from CSU Heather Latham said discussions were taking place between GWAHS and CSU to offer the Bachelor of Nursing by distance education to a group of enrolled nurses and indigenous primary health care workers from the far west of the state.
"The workshop aims to offer a 'learning bridge' that will build student confidence, understandings and support systems to prepare for and commence university studies,"
"This presents an exciting opportunity for CSU and GWAHS to work together to address the shortage of registered nurses in outback NSW," she said.
The workshop was opened by Sue Balding, project officer, Aboriginal Nursing, NSW Dept of Health.
