A workshop dealing with domestic violence was held on Tuesday at the Bowling Club and attracted people from across the community.
About 17 women attended from Lightning Ridge, Walgett, the Department of Community Services (DOCS) and the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) services.
The aim of the workshop was to create a deeper understanding about how community services work with people from a non-English speaking background.
Co-ordinator of the Lightning Ridge Safe House Ollie Chiu organised the workshop and said it went extremely well.
"Most people who attended said it was the best presented workshop they've been to in a long time."
"We have to be aware of the barriers people from non-English speaking backgrounds have when dealing with these situations."
The workshop was facilitated by Monica Mazzone from the Immigrant Women's Speak Out Association based in Sydney.
The association is a community-based organisation and is managed by women of non-English speaking backgrounds.
It is an advocacy, information, referral and research body which represents the ideas and issues of immigrant and refugee women in NSW.
Ms Chiu said it was great to have people from Sydney come to the Ridge.
"It gives Sydney a chance to see how services are operated out here with our limited resources."
