The Lightning Ridge Olympic Pool Association Inc would like the community to know that they are very close to completing the tasks of building the indoor heated diving, short course, water polo, synchronised swimming pool complex.
The five diving boards donated by the Walgett Shire Council have arrived, which cost $90,000, and are ready to be installed. Council also provided the association with an automatic pool cleaner worth $25,000.
Thanks to all the volunteers who turned up the weekend of November 14 and 15 to help paint the pool. Their help is much appreciated. Roman Sisa, Andrew Sisa, Paul Weeks, Micky Babic, Corey Thompson, Marilyn Milas, George Mulder, Ann Marie Deane, Peter Anderson and Ben and Billy Morris gave up their precious time.
All it took was a cry of help from Roman Sisa and everyone came running sacrificing their weekend and not even knowing what had to be done.
“But then I am not one bit surprised for this community behaviour is only typical of planet Lightning Ridge”, said committee president Richard Mallouk.
“Nowhere else in the world will you find such a community-minded place as the Ridge, you are unique!
“And that’s why when this project is finished you’ll have one of the best aquatic and sporting complexes in the world.
“You all should stand ten feet tall and feel bullet proof because it’s you who made it happen, it is your accomplishment, be proud of it.
“That said do not forget the amazing ‘5’, Kelly Mahoney, Lily, Tammy Jakitch, Krystal Mahoney and Simone.
“Without them there wouldn’t be an olympic pool, sport centre, water theme park or diving pool.
“21 years and still going strong, that’s what I call dedication.”
