The Western Catchment Management Authority’s inaugural chairman Mr Rory Treweeke has been reappointed to the position by Minister for Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkinson following a recent round of recruitment for chair positions to all 13 CMAs in NSW.
Mr Treweeke has more than seven year’s hands-on experience as chairman of the Western CMA. He is a highly-regarded and respected member of the western catchment community and has a wealth of experience in natural resource management.
“I am very pleased to have been reappointed as chairman of the Western CMA, with the opportunity to continue working with my fellow board members and Western CMA staff,” he said.
“By working with land managers and communities, the Western CMA can make tangible differences to the landscape of the west as well as assisting land managers develop new and innovative methods of improving and managing their natural resources.
Western CMA general manager Ken Harrison congratulated Mr Treweeke on his reappointment saying he looked forward to working with the Western CMA board on a range of projects which were planned for 2012 and beyond.
Mr Treweeke lives with his wife Joan on their station near Lightning Ridge in north-western NSW.
He has a Bachelor of Laws from Melbourne University and has been chairman of the Western CMA since its inception in 2004.
Mr Treweeke was the independent chair of the Barwon Darling River Management Committee from 1997 to 2003 and a member of the Boards of West 2000 and West 2000 Plus.
He is currently a member of the Western Lands Advisory Council, Great Darling Basin Community Committee and the Water Recovery and Environmental Use Stakeholder Panel of the Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
