Trainee in running for award at 2005 Deadlys

22 Sep, 2005 09:29 AM
Lightning Ridge trainee Eliza Williams has been named as a finalist for the Apprentice of the Year award at the 2005 Deadly Awards, the National Indigenous Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards. Eliza Williams is currently undertaking a traineeship in Certificate Ill in Business at BEST Employment. Eliza said her traineeship has motivated her and on completion of her training in March next year, she looks forward to furthering her career with BEST Employment and continuing to help indigenous people find employment. 'Apprentice of the Year' is a new category that is being sponsored by DETNAC (the Department of Education and Training New Apprenticeships Centres), the largest provider of New Apprenticeship support services in Australia. DETNAC has introduced the category to the Deadlys to celebrate and recognise Australia's young indigenous talent who have been successful in their training and can act as role models to other young indigenous people. The Deadly Awards have been dubbed ‘The Black Oscars' due to the sparkling line up of indigenous Australian stars who attend the event.
