The Lightning Ridge Golf Club has turned itself around in the past year and is now in a very strong financial position, it was revealed at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday.
Last year the club suffered a loss of more than $12,500, while this year it made a profit of over $15,000, an improvement in the vicinity of $27,000.
The club is now completely out of debt and owes no money to anybody.
Auditor Michael Carrigan told the meeting it was an excellent result.
"For a club of this size that's a tremendous achievement. Financially you're a lot more sound this year than you were last year," Mr Carrigan said.
President Joe Popovic laid most of the credit for the club's turn around at the feet of Wolf Moosmueller.
"This year we've done particularly well, thanks mainly to the huge effort Wolf has been putting into the club," he said.
The club's financial position was also helped by a deal that was struck with the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club earlier in the year which helped cut their insurance bill by two thirds.
A major discussion point at the meeting was how the club could continue its improvement by encouraging more members to join.
There used to be close to 400 members, but that number has now dropped to less than 100.
Of particular concern to the board was the lack of junior golfers at the club.
Elections were held and the existing board was re-elected unopposed.
It consists of: president – Joe Popvic; vice-president – Nigel Webb; treasurer – Wolf Moosmueller; directors – Ron Hogan, Kay Hogan, Knud Nexo, Heidi Monch-Smith, Winsome O'Brien, Noel Underwood and Ron Hogan.
