Top marks for pianists

10 Dec, 2003 06:41 PM
Two young Lightning Ridge pianists have been awarded high marks after completing their piano exams in Newcastle recently.

Bonnie and Daniel Dart, along with their mother Cheryl travelled to the Newcastle Music Conservatory to sit their piano exams.

Eleven-year-old Bonnie sat the first grade exam and 13-year-old Daniel did the third grade exam.

Both did exceptionally well with Bonnie receiving a B+ and Daniel receiving honours.

The pair have been learning piano for about seven years and both say they love it and want to continuewith their lessons.

Both children are home schooled and Ms Dart said she wanted her children to learn piano to complement their learning program.

"I thought it would be a good thing to learn as part of their schooling," she said.

Learning piano not also is enjoyable for the children but it also goes towards getting their Year 10 School Certificate and their Higher School Certificate if they continue on.

As well as completing the exams the children were allowed to look around the conservatorium, which they said was very interesting.

The children are taught by local piano instructor Jill Reardon, whose own grandson also sat for the exam.

" I'm really proud, it's absolutely brilliant," Ms Dart said.
