After 50 years being operated by Emmanuel and Constantina Petrohelos, and the past 31 by their daughter Stella and her husband Brian Kable, the Collarenebri Newsagency will be taken over by their son George and his fiancée Katie Hensley.
George and Katie take over on July 1 making them the third generation in this family-operated enterprise.
The business has evolved over the past 80-odd years from a typical Greek cafe when the business was purchased by Emmanuel Petrohelos and into the well known newsagency it has become.
Emmanuel’s daughter and son-in-law Stella and Brian Kable purchased the business in October 1978 and have made every effort to cater to the needs of Collarenebri and district. In 1986 Stella and Brian built the “New Excelsior” takeaway food shop next door to the original building, which continues to trade under leasehold. Unfortunately, due to the design of the newer drink dispensers, the process of making the old “Orange and Lemon Freezes” for which the “Original Excelsior’’ was known far and wide, could not be replicated.
George and Katie will bring a wealth of experience to the business. Katie graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design. She has also had extensive experience in the retail and hospitality industries. George has extensive experience in the farm machinery industry, being sales manager for the CaseIH dealership at Narromine and Northern NSW sales manager for Hardi spray equipment.
Brian and Stella will continue to reside in the Collarenebri district, retiring to their small farm on the outskirts, no doubt assisting in the shop when required.
Brian and Stella would sincerely like to thank their many valued customers and friends for their support and friendship during the past 30-odd years.
