Staff set plan for school

23 Jul, 2004 09:21 PM
Lightning Ridge Central School held a staff development day on Monday to gear up for the new term.

The teachers brainstormed new ideas in the direction they want their school to go this year.

Twelve months ago the teachers came up with a belief statement which incorporated the values they wanted to project in their school.

These beliefs included promoting cultural diversity and tolerance and developing strong links within the community.

Penny Lehman said they were now aiming to put the theory into practice and come up with practical ways to instil these beliefs and values into the school.

"Twelve months ago today we sat down and decided what we wanted, we projected where we wanted to go in the future. Now we're thinking what would that actually look like if you came into our school, how would you know."

Ms Lehman said the staff would try to stick closely to the belief statement in everything they do.

"It's been a 12 months process to get to this point now, and we're going to use this to be our belief statement to really underpin everything we do when we're looking at how we're spending our development training money, how we develop our policies, any changes we make within our school will be based around this. We'll ask, is this helping to make this belief a reality, if it is then we can do it, if it's not then we're putting it to one side because this is what we think is really important."

The schools also gained four new teachers this term.

Bill Stratford was from Sydney and teaches maths and Sharon Lumley is from Lismore and teachers primary school.

Shelley Cowling and Claire Davies are student teachers from Armidale University and are completing their practical component of their course at the school.
