The inaugural Opal Miner of the Year Competition just became a little more attractive with another sponsor jumping on board to boost the prize money offered to the winner.
Herman Kreller of the Opal Cave has generously donated a further $500 towards the competition, which will now see the “winner take all”. A lucrative $1000 will be awarded to the winner of the Miner of the Year competition.
Nominations for the competition are flowing in thick and fast with nine active, local miners already put forward for the competition.
So far the candidates are: Aaron Bruce, Tim Jenner, Ormie Molyneux, Mark Holland, Brendan Lunn, Nick Lohse, Shannon Barrett, Doug Cutts, Gary “Griffo” Griffiths and Cory Gibson.
Nominations will continue to be received until July 13. To nominate, please contact Angela Myers on 0407 455 413.
Voting will commence on July 13 and run until July 30. To vote, a poll will be set up on Facebook and all nominees will be published in The Ridge News on Thursday July 15, 22 and 29.
The winner will be announced at the Opal Queen Ball on Saturday July 31.
