Local Year 12 student Penny Mullington achieved a great honour this week when she was chosen as a featured artist in next year's Western Schools Spectacular.
The show, which will be the rural equivalent of the Schools Spectacular that was held in Sydney recently, will showcase all the greatest talent in western NSW, and Penny is right up there with them.
As a featured artist she will be one of the stars of the show and may be asked to sing solo or as part of an ensemble.
She was chosen after submitting a video audition that was good enough to see her off to Dubbo where she performed two songs in a face to face audition.
The show is going to be huge, with performers travelling to Dubbo from all over the State for the performance in the first week of May.
Lightning Ridge Central School is also sending down a junior choir, junior dancers and members of a circus troupe.
It is being taken very seriously, so much so that voice trainers are being sent up to work with Penny during the holidays.
All this is happening at the same time as she is about to start her HSC year.
"It's going to be a lot of hard work, but it'll be fun, too," she said.
This is the not the first time Penny has been in the spotlight.
In Year 7 she was chosen to appear in the Schools Spectacular in Sydney as part of a group of 12 girls singing the national anthem.
