Seven people, including two men from Lightning Ridge, have been arrested following a drug operation conducted throughout western NSW last week.
In the operation, which focused on four towns, police seized cannabis with an estimated street value of $17,500.
Operation Tulkarm, targeted the supply and distribution of drugs within the local area command and saw Casltlereagh detectives, the western region TAG unit and the police dog unit carry out searches.
Local Area Commander, superintendent Tony Jefferson, said the seven arrested had 10 charges against them relating to the supply and possession of prohibited drugs, cultivation, possession of prohibited plants, property theft and traffic matters.
He said the operation involved searches of four targeted premises and the detection of illegal drugs at licensed venues in Coonamble, Lightning Ridge, Walgett, Collarenebri and Grawin.
He said police had used a special drug dog in the raids.
Two people were also cautioned for the possession of cannabis.
The two Lightning Ridge men are both aged in their 40s and will face Lightning Ridge Local Court on February 13.
Supt Jefferson said the success of these operations was reliant on community information.
"As a community we don't want these individuals dealing in drugs and criminal activity, particularly when information is received that dealers are selling to young children."
He said Operation Tulkarm would continue across the local area command.
"The drug dealers and criminal elements should take heed that police operations will continue on a regular basis.
"Decent people are tired of putting up with crime and want action," he said.
"If you want to do drugs and commit a crime, don't do it in this local area command.
"You will be arrested and prosecuted," he said.
Supt Jefferson said targets had been identified and the police would be gathering intelligence information from various sources.
"Further arrests will come," he said.
A similar operation targeting drug activity was carried out late last year which led to a number of arrests, and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs and stolen property.
During the previous operation a number of Lightning Ridge residents were also arrested.
