Lightning Ridge Central School student Shari Gibbs has received a scholarship from the NSW Department of Education and Training to award her achievement and encourage her to continue her studies.
The Two Ways Together scholarship winners for Western NSW were announced by the Regional Director for Education and Training Carole McDiarmid.
"These Two Ways Together Scholarships aim to foster excellence by recognising achievement in academic, artistic, sporting and cultural endeavors," she said.
A spokesperson for the Department of Education and Training said the scholarships were a way to provide financial support while encouraging students in their school work.
Teacher Nicole De Losa said Shari was nominated by the school for her effort and positive attitude towards school.
"Shari has been given $1000 to spend on things related to her school work, and that can range from text book expenses to her going away on excursions," she said.
Shari only found out about the scholarship just before her excursion to Tamworth and said it was a great surprise.
"I wasn't expecting it but it is great I have been recognised by the school," she said.
