The Lightning Ridge Neighbourhood Centre Food for Families is going really well, and is very much appreciated by those who use it.

The centre now has two levels of service fees $15 and $30, introduced to make it easier for single pensioners.

Food for Families is a philanthropic food assistance scheme run from FoodBank NSW with food donated from large supermarkets.

The centre also purchases some supplementary fruit and vegetables.

All persons on low income are eligible to join, the Lightning Ridge Neighbourhood Centre has a membership of 135.

Food is distributed each Thursday from 17 Nobby Road at 9.30am to 12.30pm.

All other ER, Nils and EAPA (electricity vouchers) are distributed at 17 Nobby Road on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

There will also be a working group of the LRNC craft group “The Desert Roses” on Wednesday February 1 at 17 Nobby Road, 9.30am to 12.30pm. If you are interested in the craft group, please come along and enjoy a cuppa.

For further information please ring Melinda on 6829 4332. The group will be participating in Waste to Art later in the year.

The Yulluwirri Painters art group will commence for 2012 on February 3. This is next to the Men’s Shed at 9am until 2pm.

For any enquiries please call into the Neighbourhood Centre and see Karin or ring 6829 2333.
