Ridge to feature on popular show

24 Oct, 2002 08:35 AM

The Chamber of commerce's television promotional packages will be screened on Channel 7's The Wheel of Fortune next Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Chamber's president Stephen Eldridge said the screening of the promotional packages was the culmination of 12 months of hard work.

"There will be two prize packages on offer," Mr Eldridge said.

"The first is the stand-alone item of jewellery, an opal pendant, which will be featured initially on The Wheel of Fortune."

He said the second prize involved an all-expenses paid week's holiday package including airfares, accommodation, and tours to the Ridge.

"The beautiful piece of lovely jewellery (the opal pendant) valued at more than $9000 is the centrepiece of our major prime-time television promotion to go on the popular program The Wheel of Fortune."

"Some lucky contestant will have the chance to win this, but who knows the prize might not even go off, but we're hoping people will want to pick it."

He said the packages were initially going to be screened in early September but there had been some delays from Grundy, the show's producer.

"I think they had deliberately delayed it, because they liked our prize so much, so they decided to screen it during their anniversary week which is next week," he said.

"I think by having an ongoing media presence about Lightning Ridge, people nationally will start to know we're the place that produces Australia's national gemstone.

Mr Eldridge said The Wheel of Fortune television promotional package was the initial step in this ongoing project.

"We can continue to make people aware about opals and its prime importance in Australia by having an ongoing campaign, but we need to take it step by step."

Mr Eldridge said tremendous support had been received from the community which had contributed significantly to the successful project.

"This project started off as just another simple idea put forward by Eddie Webb, but with the hard work by both Eddie and Kavitha James who did all the leg work, it has come to fruition."

He said the chamber had collected $3980 in cash support with an additional $4000 of in-kind support.

"The in-kind support was for goods and services provided in lieu of a cash donation."

Mr Eldridge said the chamber formally thanked Alex Iskenderian who designed and produced the stunning opal pendant.
