Lightning Ridge’s Black Opal Motel played host to a very special group of guests on Tuesday evening.
Stephane and Paul and their support team are WorldRiderZ and they are riding their motorbikes from Sydney to Paris to raise awareness and money for ongoing research into Chronic Kidney Disease at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Spanning 14 countries and about 30,000km, their epic journey got underway last Saturday and they hope to reach Paris by the end of October.
WorldRiderZ will be visiting hospitals in every capital city they visit during the course of their journey in order to create a network of renal and urology medical professionals. This is so families from all over the world will be able to benefit from the research the Sydney Children’s Hospital will be able to do with the money that WorldRiderz raise.
Stephane came up with the concept for WorldRiderZ after his own son was born with underdeveloped kidneys and he found that it changed his life.
Stehpane and Paul have described the first few days of their trip as fantastic.
The rain on Wednesday morning certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of this jovial bunch.
“The rain doesn’t matter,” said Stephane, “we’re not complaining. How could we complain when we get to travel around the world?”
The WorldRiderZ journey will be the subject of television series aired on the Discovery network in July 2011.
