The opal research team from the University of Sydney will be visiting Lightning Ridge in the second week of May.
Dr Patrice Rey and Dr Adriana Dutkiewicz will be talking about their research on the evening of Wednesday May 12 so save the date.
We will give you more details a little closer to the time.
Dr Patrice Rey has visited Lightning Ridge quite a few times and presented at a number of the National Opal Symposiums and Adriana presented at the symposium in Winton last year.
They are in the middle of a three-year research grant and are focussing on structure and the origin of opal deposits.
Check out their website for more information on their project -http://web.me.com/patrice.rey/Th e_Opal_Project/Welcome.html
Whi le they are in Lightning Ridge the research team would like to look at interesting sites - anything from fossiliferous sites, to weathering profiles, to stratigraphy, structures etc.
If you have anything interesting in your claim that you can show Patrice, would you please contact the LRMA office?
