To strengthen the profile of rugby league in Australia at a local level, several professional players will make their way to the Walgett Shire next week to meet and greet residents in the Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri and Walgett townships to promote all aspects of the sport.
This trip is just one branch of the rugby league’s outreach tour is backed by the ‘one community’ program and sends players across the State to meet up with the sport’s fans.
For the Walgett Shire leg of the schedule, several players from the Cronulla Sharks club will take time out of their busy schedules to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
It is believed Luke Douglas, Kade Snowden, Broderick Wright, Josh Cordoba and Grant Millington will make their way north in the coming days, however this list is subject to change.
The players will begin their tour at the Walgett Swimming Pool at 3.30pm on Monday February 8 where they will meet with residents before heading to Lightning Ridge.
At approximately 7.30pm the group will spend some time at the Lightning Ridge Hotel Motel’s outdoor entertainment area to speak with locals interested in the sport.
The next morning the athletes will head to Collarenebri for a talk with the students at the central school at 9.30am before they return south to fly back to Sydney.
Anybody interested in meeting with the players, whether you’re just a fan of the sport or are one of the
many junior players wishing to see professional player up close, you are welcome to attend.
