Practical ideas for school

24 Nov, 2005 08:43 AM
While students of Lightning Ridge Central School took full advantage of the pupil-free day last Friday parents, teachers and members of the community came together to help develop plans for the future of the school.

Principal Peter Partridge said: "It's all about where we want the school to be in the next three years and how we are going to get there."

The meeting broke up into six groups and each looked at different aspects, such as Aboriginal Education, Curriculum Delivery and Community Involve- ment.

Each group then gave feedback to the meeting on the ideas they had looked at.

Two of the recurring themes were the need to improve the attendance rate of students and the need to hire a community liaison officer who was partially independent of the school.

"It's up to the School Advisory Board now to sift through the stuff that has been talked about," Mr Partridge said.

"There are a lot of really practical suggestions and hopefully we'll be able to include most of them."
