The Great Goat Race Committee is desperately seeking new members to fill its office bearing positions so that the Easter Festival’s premier event can continue to run successfully in the future.
Next year will see the 35th annual Great Goat Race run in Lightning Ridge, but before that can happen the positions of president, secretary, treasurer and publicity officer need to be filled.
The current committee has been in place for the last five to six years after a call for new members in 2007 went largely unanswered, but according to the president of the Great Goat Race committee Carole McClory, they need new blood because they’ve run out of ideas.
Paul Weeks agreed with Ms McClory; “We need fresh people with new ideas to drive it into the future, making it bigger and better.”
Mr Weeks said although the current committee members were willing to help out come Easter time, they were no longer able to shoulder the full responsibility of organising the event due to a lack of time and enthusiasm.
Ms McClory said although the committee was yet to set a date for its annual general meeting, it will be advertised in the community notices column of The Ridge News some time during the next couple of weeks.
She invited anyone who is interested in joining the Great Goat Race Committee to attend the meeting.
After a successful year in 2010, let’s hope that a
new committee can be formed to help the Great
Goat Race achieve bigger and better things than ever before.
