Lunatic Hill News Flash: In conjunction with the new Snippets series from ‘Gouger of the Bulletin’, we would like to announce that the plaque commemorating 100 years since Ion ‘Jack’ Idriess (aka Gouger) took out his Miner’s Right, has been put into place.
It is on a lump of ironstone conglomerate at Lunatic Lookout on the 3-Mile that can be visited on the ABC Yellow Car Door Explorer Tour.
Rotarians Noel Hodges (president) and Michael Taylor, also president of the historical society, volunteered to do the job.
They also replaced the almost illegible plaque at Nettleton’s First Shaft at the 6-Mile, the destination of the Green Car Door Explorer Tour. Caz Peters and Barbara Moritz off-sided.
If you haven’t been out to Lunatic Lookout lately, you may not have seen the three new information panels that describe the history, geology and rehabilitation of the open cut.
Please take a drive - you will also enjoy the developing sculpture garden of Big Boys’ Toys inside the fence enroute!
