As a master of the boogie woogie piano Jan Preston is sure to create a different experience for a Lightning Ridge audience.

Jan describes the boogie woogie style as fun and easy to dance to, sure to make you jump out of your seat.

She is recognised as one of Australia's leading female blues and jazz artists and it will be her first trip to the Ridge.

"I am very excited and looking forward to getting there ... I don't really have any expectations," she said.

Jan was born in New Zealand and had a friend who came to the Ridge and gave her an opal as a gift.

"Since then I've been in love with it and keen to get a look at some more," she said. Jan said her music was of an entertaining style that could be very funny and have the audience in raptures, while she also had songs with great sadness.

"I love performing live and I find most people usually have a fun and entertaining time," she said.

Jan has performed at many festivals including four this year and she has just fisnished composing all the music for the ABC's Dynasty series.

Jan has also composed music for films including the film, The Piano staring Sam Neil.

Jan will perform at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club on May 7.
