 Participants revisit their childhood

Participants revisit their childhood

27 Jun, 2002 09:19 AM
Soroptimist International of Lightning Ridge held a games night in the games room of the bowling club on a very busy Saturday night.

Due to other commitments and functions the turnout was very few, which is disappointing when the object is to raise money for the new hospital and the infants playground at the school.

In spite of this fact, those that attended had a great time.

The games played were simple children's games, snakes and ladders, cards, othello, draughts, and so forth, which took a lot of us back many, many years to a distant childhood, and judging by the laughter in the room during the night, everyone enjoyed the experience.

What we found was even if you had never played an individual game, a couple of minutes practice and we were instant experts!

Maria Sorokoput put a lot of work into being MC, with Maureen Murray and Fiona Prentice, into organising the night and everything went off without a hitch.

Thanks very much ladies for all your efforts. Luckily we had the support of the carpet bowlers in the auditorium for our raffle, and the donation of the supper from the bowling club, and prizes from some of the members, we raised more than $300 for these two charities.

Winners on the night were Kim Wormald, John Simpson and Maureen Murray, but as far as enjoyment went, we were all winners.

Soroptimist International of Lightning Ridge is organising a Car Navigation Trial/Scavenger Hunt to be held on Sunday, July 14, departing at 10:30am from the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club.

The cost is $10 per car (regardless of passenger numbers).

Proceeds from this function will go towards purchasing equipment for our new hospital (due to open in December), and also to help provide equipment for our central school.

First prize is $100 of fuel from a Lightning Ridge service station of the winner's choice and second prize is a gift basket. There are also prizes to collect along the way.

At the final destination, a sausage sizzle will be held, with tea, coffee and soft drinks available at a small cost, or participants can bring their own picnic basket.

At the final destination there will also be a kids treasure hunt.

We are hoping to get lots of entrants, as it should be a great fun day for the family.

Soroptimist International of Lightning Ridge, is part of a worldwide organisation whose purpose it is to promote the objects of soroptimism for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.
