"A lot of drownings occur inland because people aren't familiar enough with the water," he said.

That is why the pool will be running a course this weekend for anybody who is interested in gaining their Bronze Medallion.

Participants will be taught all the basics of water safety including CPR and various rescue techniques.

Everyone from the ages of thirteen and up is encouraged to attend.

Mr Sisa said that having a Bronze Medallion was not just for teenagers.

"It's good for parents too because they can then pass that knowledge on to their children."

The course will be conducted this Saturday.

It costs $115 for those doing it for the first time and $80 for those who already have the medallion and wish to do a refresher course.

Anyone interested should contact Mr Sisa on 0403 903 577.
