 MUSICAL TREAT IN SCRUB

MUSICAL TREAT IN SCRUB

23 Sep, 2004 11:20 AM
The patrons of the Club in the Scrub at Grawin were given a treat last Wednesday evening.

A group from Lightning Ridge performed a variety of music including Australian and gospel songs.

Kathy and Peter Hall led the community singing, and performed two duets.

Well-known local Mal Podmore performed two of his own compositions and joined George Ferguson and Felli McHughes in another bracket of songs.

The group was sponsored by the Lightning Ridge Community Church and also included Phil Mitchell, Stuart Pratt, Steve Vastag and Consuelo Baxter.

Attention was drawn to one particular song entitled It Is Well With My Soul.

Written by American businessman, the song expresses his deep love for and strong faith in god despite the total loss of his business in the Great Fire of Chicago in 1873 and the loss of his four daughters a few weeks later, who died along with 270 others in the disastrous sinking of the French ship 'Ville du Havre'.

Folks attending the function also enjoyed a barbeque very capably managed by Les and Lena Godfrey.
