Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton visited Lightning Ridge last Thursday to meet with members of the community as well as small business owners to discuss issues that were of concern to them in the lead-up to the Federal Election.
He arrived in the area early last week when he visited Walgett to officially open the Walgett Historical Society’s Old Council Chambers redevelopment.
Mr Coulton said he and his wife Robyn had spent a lot of time visiting communities within the Parkes electorate since Julia Gillard had announced that Australia would be going to the polls on August 21.
Although it had been an exhausting couple of weeks he said it was not vastly different to his usual routine as he has always tried to spend as much time as possible in the electorate, meeting with people, since he was elected to Parliament in 2007.
Labor candidate Andrew Brooks, candidate for the Greens Matt Parameter and two Independents Mick Colless and John Clements will also contest the seat of Parkes at this year’s election.
