Three surgeons swapped their scapels for cameras and joined a photographer to collate an exhibition of photos on Lightning Ridge and its unique characteristics.
The exhibition entitled "A Day in the Life of Lightning Ridge" was on display at the bowling club during the four-day Opal Muster and saw images of life at the Grawin/Glengarry opal mining communities as well as some of the Ridge people involved in the opal industry.
Surgeons Dr Joe Marich, Dr Murray Stapleton and Dr John Anstee came to Lightning Ridge on Melbourne Cup day last November with photographer Brian Murray to take the photos for the exhibition.
Mr Murray said they wanted to record some of the interesting places and faces of the Ridge.
He said mayor Peter Waterford and local Neroli Bevan who had shown an interest in the photography project guided them around the Ridge country.
The three-day photography shoot produced 71 photos that Mr Murray said have tried to capture the real feeling and character of Lightning Ridge and the people that make it happen.
"We are considering donating these photos to the Walgett Shire Council to be used by the tourist association and historical society for the benefit of promoting Lightning Ridge," he said.
Mr Murray said they would keep copies of the photos they wanted to work on.
He said in the future he would try to capture other towns on camera to display their uniqueness, and exhibit them.
